Sketching ideas for greeting cards this evening, and these little doodles started to turn into something quite special. I couldn't resist painting them, then rearranging them in photoshop (each little lady was individually drawn across three pages of my sketch book) Its given me lots of ideas! Hope you like them.

Suzy Snowflake

A little while back I told you about a character I was desperate to illustrate and create. I said I wanted to wait till the weather got frosty before I introduced her in a post.....Well I couldn't wait - and since all things positively Christmassy are now hitting the shops, heres my favourite frosty festive creation - Suzy Snowflake!!

You may have seen Suzy Snowflake on my facebook page and one on Etsy already but I wanted to share with you what chilly and charming vision initially made my head spin and my heart ache!

Just watch this.....In 1951 children were introduced to the whimsical story of Suzy Snowflake. Just a magical, timeless, dreamy bit of animation.  I love the song, sung by Rosemary Clooney. I've been singing it around the house for months!

So...here is my little Suzy Snowflake collection. I am so pleased with the way she turned out. I can almost imagine how she would speak!

Each creation slightly differs but they all have white woolen dresses and silver thread sparkling at the ends of their long eyelashes.

Here comes Suzy Snowflake
Dressed in a snow white gown
Tap, tap, tappin' at your window pane
To tell you she's in town

They are avaliable in I Love Crafty in Bristol http://www.ilovecrafty.co.uk/  but I do make to order so if you would like your very own Suzy Snowflake in your home this Christmas just drop me an email and I will email you with price/postage/packaging details. I will be more than happy make one for you.

Another frosty inspiration for Missy Snowflake came from Kazuno Kohara's childrens book 'Here Comes Jack Frost' The story of a little boy who's winter blues disappear when he is visited by Mr. Frost himself. The crisp, wintry illustrations are just so beautiful!  We borrowed it from the library and my little boy still talks at length about it now... Its going on the Christmas list!
