I'm still jumping for joy over the fact that I won 'Best Artist' at the National Vintage Awards! I've had possibly the best week ever in terms of new followers, lovely emails, commission requests and hits on my blog and website. Thankyou, thankyou it means the world to me to have my work recognised and celebrated.
|So lovely to bring home the trophy!|
Since my 'Snippets of Jean' postcard sets and prints have been so successful, I just can't help but turn my creative attentions back to my favourite actress Myrna Loy. Myrna Loy has already received the Pip treatment in terms of several dolls and other little paintings, but I thought I'd start work on a whole new set of illustrations highlighting the Queen of Hollywoods effortless style, confidence and wit.
These are just photos so far of my work and not scans.
|I love the candy striped dress Myrna wears in 'The Thin Man' I have no idea what colour the dress originally was but its so 'Candy' I had to create it in pink, red and white!|
Lots of people ask me what I use when painting. To be honest I use a variety of top quality and inexpensive paints, various sizes of paintbrush, 6B pencils (which I get through at a rate you wouldn't believe!) and several types of paper from watercolour, acrylic, pastel or handmade Khadi paper - depending on what paints I'm using and how I want the overall finished piece to look. I used pen and ink with a tiny bit of gouache paint for my Jean Harlow project. For 'Magical Myrna' I'm trying something different again... I like to swap and change and experiment with different materials, so for this little collection I have used coffee and hot water (yes indeed) pastel coloured canvases and gouache.
Wishing everyone a fabulous weekend! I will have these prints (and possibly a few more) worked on, scanned and hopefully ready to show you next week.
